2time: From Idea to App Store

We built the 2time mobile app — a platform for the dance community — going from first conversation to both app stores in under three months, with a single developer.

How it started

The 2time team had a clear idea: a place where dancers could find events, and organizers could reach their audience. They’d already built the community side of things, but needed someone to handle the tech. The catch? A tight budget and the kind of timeline that makes most agencies say no.

We said yes. One senior developer took on the whole thing — no team rotation, no project managers in between. Just direct communication and fast decisions.

What we built

The core of the app is an event discovery system. Users can search and filter by dance style, event type, region, date — the kind of multi-layered filtering that’s easy to get wrong. We spent extra time getting the UX right so the filters feel natural rather than overwhelming.

On the backend, we went with a cloud architecture and JWT auth. Even for an MVP, we didn’t want to build something that would need to be thrown away in six months. The system handles growth without major rework.

Getting it right on both iOS and Android took some care. Each platform has its own conventions, and users notice when something feels off. We kept the experience consistent where it mattered and adapted where it didn’t.

Under three months from kickoff, the app was live on both stores.

What happened next

We’re still working with 2time. The app keeps evolving — new features, performance tuning, adjustments as the community grows. That’s the kind of relationship we prefer: staying involved, not just handing over a codebase and moving on.
